Dr. Bobby Manning proudly serves as the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church of District Heights. Under his leadership, the church has grown significantly in number as well as local and global impact. Dr. Manning is widely considered a “pastor of the community” as he leads The Heights to continued service to the physical and spiritual needs of the residents of the Metropolitan DC area.
Under Dr. Manning’s leadership in empowering the community, “The Heights” has been recognized in local and national publications such as Outreach Magazine, BET, and The Washington Post.
In response to God’s call to ministry at the young age of 16, Dr. Manning immediately sought out the necessary training to sharpen his ministerial gifting. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in Religion from Campbell University, a Master of Theology degree (Th.M.) from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min) from Regent University.
Dr. Manning was licensed to the gospel ministry and ordained at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden (FBCG) by his mentor and spiritual covering, Pastor John K. Jenkins, Sr. While at FBCG, he served as Special Assistant to the Pastor and Young-Adult Pastor.
Dr. Manning is the author of three books. Saving Our Sons: Effectively Engaging Young Men of Color, Move Like a King, and Are You Afraid of Heights. In addition to serving his local church, he also serves as a seminary professor, church consultant and leadership coach.
Dr. Manning is a native of the Washington, D.C. area where he and his wife LaVera currently reside with their three sons Levi, Reuben and Joseph.
